For Designers and Consultants

Original black and white darkroom photography for the spaces you design.

I am Christina Shivcharan, the photographer and artist behind 8x10 Dot Photography in Toronto. My work is film-based and darkroom-produced: vintage cameras, chemical development and silver gelatin paper, sometimes merged with illustration, metal or fabric. Each piece is one of a kind.

If you place art for hotels, restaurants, offices, residences or events, this page shows the ways we can work together. I would rather you could see everything in one place than hunt across several pages.

FOUR WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER

Rent a Piece

Artwork rental places an original in your client's space without the commitment of acquisition. It suits short-term installations, set designs, corporate functions and spaces that want to live with a piece first.

  • Rental fees are a percentage of the work's purchase price, charged monthly, and they decrease for longer terms.

  • A security deposit is held for the rental and returned when the work comes back safely.

  • Your client can buy the work at any time during the rental. A credit equal to 50% of the rental fees already paid goes toward the purchase price.

Commission a Work

When a room or wall needs something made for it, I take on commissions if the brief is right. Start with a short proposal form, and we follow up with a call.

  • A 50% deposit is commonly required to secure scheduling. The balance is typically due on completion, before final delivery.

  • You may cancel up to 7 days after the project is greenlit. If you've paid, a full refund is issued during pre-production.

  • Once materials are purchased and production is scheduled, refunds are no longer available, because those costs are specific to your commission.

Acquire an Original

Original works are available in the shop, from a numbered limited edition to one-of-a-kind pieces on metallic fine art paper, aluminum plate and acrylic facemount.

Collectors who acquire an original may also receive complimentary access to The Artist's Studio, where I share work in progress.

License an image

For publishers, brands and businesses that need licensed, digitized artwork, I offer separate licenses, with a written agreement signed before any use.

Terms can cover the number of copies, the length of the license and the formats.

SEE THE WORK

Everything I make is shown on this website, including all images on this page.

I do not send images by email. If you would like more context, I am glad to share a CV and an artist statement on request.

Good to Know

  • Work is displayed away from direct sunlight, humidity and extreme temperature changes.

  • Artist attribution is shown with the work: Christina Shivcharan / 8x10 Dot Photography.

  • Copyright always stays with me. Rental and purchase do not include reproduction or commercial rights.

  • Rentals are best suited to Toronto and the surrounding area. Further afield, ask me and we will see what works.

  • Canadian businesses may be able to deduct the taxes paid on Canadian-made artwork used in an income-generating setting when it costs $200 or more. Check with your accountant or the Canada Revenue Agency.
