The Invisible Edge: What Informal Conservation Reveal
Anyone who reads my LinkedIn posts will know that I normally arrive early to work, since I rather be early than late because of traffic delyas, and in that spare couple of minutes before getting started on tasks, I would hang-out in the breakroom to grab a coffee and chat with whoever might be around.
Looking back, its those offhand "Hey Christina" moments by the coffee pot that stand out most.
Causal grettings from the boss werent' just polite, they were invitations to connect on a deeper level, to build trusting relationships. It was a chance to catch-up with a colleague who I don't often get to formally meet with, or for a quick acknowledgement that syas, hey I see you: you matter to me.
And that kind of acknowledgement is worth more than any proformance review. That one-minute interaction fosters engagement better than any team-building lunch or weekend retreat.
